ABOUT ME
I'm Valerie Denise Jones, an award-winning editor, filmmaker, director, cultural storyteller, author, and proud U.S. Army veteran. I believe filmmaking is more than an art form. It is a responsibility to preserve history, confront uncomfortable truths, and ensure that stories too often overlooked are neither forgotten nor silenced.
My career spans film, television, documentary production, and broadcasting, where I've developed a passion for transforming complex human experiences into compelling visual narratives. My work has received film festival recognition, grant awards, and three mayoral proclamations from Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan, Gainesville Mayor Harvey L. Ward, and Hawthorne Mayor Randy Martin, recognizing my contributions to the arts, cultural preservation, and community storytelling.
From documenting entertainment legends to examining domestic violence, identity, social injustice, and the resilience of underserved communities, I create films with a clear purpose: to inform, challenge, inspire, and give a voice to those whose stories deserve greater visibility. Every project is guided by artistic integrity, thoughtful research, and a commitment to responsible storytelling.
As an independent filmmaker, I understand that meaningful cinema requires more than creative vision. It demands discipline, resourcefulness, perseverance, and the determination to bring important stories to completion, even when resources are limited. I approach filmmaking not simply as a profession, but as a lifelong commitment to cultural preservation and social impact.
